Trainings/Resources:

  • College Compass Accepting Applications for ’22-’23 School Year – College Compass is an educational support program funded by HireAbility Vermont and located at the Castleton State University and Northern Vermont University sites (Lyndon and Johnson). If you have a student or young adult attending or thinking of attending those institutions connect them with their HireAbility Transition Counselor for more information.  Patty Moore at CSU is also willing to answer questions (patty@collegesteps.org).

  • New Emergency Housing Application – For families and students/young adults facing homelessness, Economic Services Division has launched a new application.  Attached is a fillable copy of the new application, a copy of the letter sent to guests, and instructions on how to submit the application through the uploader.

  • Early College Plus Early College | Go to College (gotocollegevt.org). Vermont high school class of 2023: complete a career certificate during your Early College year! The Vermont Community Foundation is offering a $1,000 stipend to each Early College student who enrolls in one of five certificate programs: cybersecurity fundamentalsgraphic designIT service desk specialistdigital media production, or childcare.  Stipends can be used to help cover the cost of books, materials, transportation, food, fees, or other non-academic expenses.

  • CCV Hosting Open Houses – CCV is hosting virtual open house events to introduce students and parents to CCV opportunities and financial aid options, including free programs like dual enrollment and early college (see attached flyer).

  • SAVE THE DATE – VSAC Annual Transition Event – See attached email.  Registration begins April 1st.  Event will be live virtually and sessions will be recorded for asynchronous viewing after the event.  Keynote address by Dr. Mandy Savitz-Romer, a lecturer at Harvard University and author of Fulfilling the Promise: Reimagining School Counseling for Student Success and Ready, Willing, and Able: A Developmental Approach to College Access and Success, will address informed practices for supporting post-secondary planning with attention to the current educational landscape. Attendees will receive a facilitator’s guide for continued in- house discussion following the presentation.

  • Supporting Employment for Individuals on the Autism Spectrum – FREE Training – Please join us for this free remote training event for service providers and educators. Sponsored by Developmental Disabilities Services Division, HireAbility Vermont (formerly VocRehab) and University of Vermont-Center on Disability & Community Inclusion.  This training will deepen your understanding of students and young adults who experience autism. You will explore challenges related to communication, motivation, social interaction, anxiety, and sensory issues which can get in the way of education, employment, participation, and independence.  You will explore the neurological basis of these challenges as well as positive-proactive strategies proven useful in assisting people to be successful in their high schools, employment, colleges, families, and communities.  Presenters: Alan Kurtz, Ph.D., Center for Community Inclusion and Disability Studies, University of Maine and Nicole LeBlanc, Disability Employment, Policy Consultant.  Date: Tuesday April 5, 2022. 9:00-4:00.  Register here: https://forms.gle/sUWtBLL6RVcp3nxw8

  • Governor’s Institutes of Vermont –  Registration now open for Summer Institute sessions.  Session fees are on a sliding fee and there are funding resources available through GIV.  Flyer has a QR code for more details.
