Interactive Special Education Workshop with Dr. Jacqueline Kelleher, State Director of Special Education at VT Agency of Education

August 14th fromĀ 3 pm – 4:30 pm

The Vermont Youth Advisory Council invites youth and young adults to an interactive conversation about being your best self-advocate when it comes to your IEP! Student voices are so important to the IEP process!

  • How should I utilize yearly meetings to talk about my goals?
  • What are my long-term goals?
  • Can you help me become a leading voice at our IEP meetings?

Join Dr. Kelleher and her twin sons, Teagen and Tyler Comeau as they share their experiences as a family who were actively involved in their IEP meetings, which led to some awesome outcomes! They are excited to share, happy to chat about IEP self-advocacy, and answer questions you have about your special education.

Youth Summit Workshop: Finding Your Story with Hasan Davis

August 19th from 1 pm – 2:30 pm

Every person hopes to become the hero of their own story. For young people experiencing disabilities it can be difficult to own their experience, feel empowered, navigate challenges, and find personal success. Hasan is excited to share strategies which helped in shaping his own journey.

Hasan Davis knows what it is like to struggle. With an early diagnosis of ADHD and dyslexia Hasan was arrested at 11. After attending five different elementary schools, Hasan was enrolled in an alternative school and was expelled his senior year. With the help of those who invested faith in his ability to be more, Hasan found the courage to persist. With the encouragement of these Hope Dealers, Hasan decided to risk the life he was barely surviving for a shot at a life he could hardly imagine. Hasan acquired his degree in Communication and Law, is a national leader in Juvenile Justice, and a champion of Inclusive Education.
