DESCRIPTION:The Vermont ABLE Savings Program has enrolled nearly 400 Vermonters! That’s one of the highest participation rates/capita in the country. Sponsored by Vermont State Treasurer Beth Pearce\, this tax-advantaged program shields savings from the low asset limits of federal benefits like social security and Medicaid. The Vermont Developmental Disabilities Council Executive Director Kirsten Murphy has been an active participant in Vermont’s ABLE Task Force. She will explain how VT-ABLE works and how it can play a part in supporting greater independence and a more financially secure future for someone with a disability. Presenter: Kirsten Murphy\, VDDC Executive Director. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Youth Summit Keynote Presentation with Hasan Davis
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to a “virtual” Youth Summit with dynamic keynote speaker Hasan Davis! This free event was organized by the Youth Advocacy Council and is hosted by Vermont Family Network and Vocational Rehabilitation Vermont. Register here. \n\n\n \n\n\nThe keynote presentation is specifically for youth and young adults\, and those supporting youth in achieving their hopes and dreams are also welcome. The workshop for youth is offered on two different dates (5/28 and 6/2) and youth can choose the one that they prefer. Registration is required for both the keynote speech and the workshop so please register today! \n\n\n \n\n\nKeynote: Hasan Davis shares his journey through the education\, justice\, and social service systems that often fail to provide support for success. During his journey he came across those who found a way to engage\, encourage\, and empower him. With their support\, he used his past “failures” to become a strong self-advocate and champion for others facing difficulties. Hasan believes that each person can influence and change the way youth encounter systems. Hasan will share simple strategies that really helped him as a youth.\n\n\n \n\n\nIf you have any questions\, need help registering or would like to request a reasonable accommodation\, please contact Martha.Frank@vtfn.org with Vermont Family Network or Nichole.Jolly@vermont.gov with Vocational Rehabilitation Vermont.
