Parents’ Rights

Parents’ rights are guaranteed by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Vermont Special Education Regulations:

  • Written notice from the school regarding your child’s identification, evaluation, educational placement or the provision of a free appropriate public education (FAPE)
  • Consent and revocation of consent regarding special education evaluation, reevaluation and services
  • Conflict resolution through the due process complaint and administrative complaint procedures, and the availability of mediation
  • Confidentiality of student records
