There are many types of disabilities. Nearly 1 in 5 people in the U.S. have a disability. Anyone can have a disability, which may occur at any point in a person’s life. Some children are born with a chronic health condition or genetic disorder. Other disabilities may be “invisible,” such as mental health conditions, which may not be diagnosed until a child is a teenager or young adult.
We help you find information about your child’s disability and connections to support your family. Other families have made a similar journey, so we don’t have to go it alone. We’re here to provide shared experiences of families. Our similarities to other families far outweigh our differences. One parent said, “My son’s needs are the same as everyone else’s. It’s how he gets them met that’s different.”
We are working to expand information on different disabilities on our website. Occasionally we receive a grant that allows us to provide in-depth information about a particular topic such as autism or transition to adulthood.
