2018 Annual Conference
Vermont Family Network’s Annual Conference will be held Tuesday, April 3 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Burlington Vermont Hotel (formerly Sheraton Burlington Hotel & Conference Center). This year’s conference theme is “Building a Good Life” and Josie Badger will be the keynote speaker. Our day-long conference hosts more than 350 attendees, 35 exhibitors, and features 11 workshops geared to families, individuals with special needs, and professionals who support them.

Transition-Age Youth Special Rate
Once again we will be having a special reduced registration rate ($25) for youth ages 14 – 26. Youth will find workshops geared towards them throughout the day. People not within this age group will need to pay the rate of either $90 (for parents of children with special needs) or $110 (professionals).
Keynote Speaker: Josie Badger
Dr. Josie Badger received her Bachelor’s degree from Geneva College in Disability Law and Advocacy, a Master’s from the University of Pittsburgh in Rehabilitation Counseling, and a Doctorate from Duquesne University in Healthcare Ethics. In 2014 Josie founded J Badger Consulting Inc. where she provides consulting services for organizations including the PEAL Center, on transition and leadership development. She is the Co-Director of the national RSA – Parent Training and Information Center technical assistance center (RAISE). She is also the campaign manager of the #IWantToWork Campaign, to improve the employment of people with disabilities. She serves as a board member of the United Way of Southwestern PA and FISA. In 2012, Dr. Badger was crowned Ms. Wheelchair America. Previously, she was an author for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention for the book Launching into Adulthood and she served as president of the National Youth Leadership Network and the Pennsylvania Youth Leadership Network (PYLN).
Keynote: “Building Bridges to Success”
With the new Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, today’s youth with disabilities will be expected to not only survive into adulthood but also thrive. But are we preparing youth for these lofty expectations? Dr. Josie Badger will discuss changing expectations for youth, key skills needed for success, and reflect on her experience growing up with a disability.
