VFN has an extensive network of families, professionals, other agencies, and other resources to assist you. If you have any questions about our programs or services, please contact us at 1-800-800-4005. We are happy to assist you with any questions that you may have. Our family support staff has extensive knowledge about children and families with special needs and many are parents of children with special needs themselves.
We also have a network of families who are willing to share their personal stories and answer any questions you may have through our parent match program. Our Family Support Consultants offer peer parent matches to parents who have children, youth or adults with special needs, and have concerns they want to share with another parent.
A Family Support Consultant connects a Referred Parent (one asking for a match) with a Supporting Parent (one who has similar experiences and is trained to provide empathic listening and support). Sometimes a Potential Supporting Parent, one who has not attended training yet, but has offered to support and share information, will be the best match. Matches are made based on the self-identified needs of the parent.
You can stay connected to our families and professionals through our social network by connecting through our Facebook and twitter pages, newsletters, and listserv.
In addition, VFN Parent Panels offer opportunities for connections between families and students in healthcare and education courses at local colleges. Family Support Consultants organize panels of three parents to present their family stories in classes of 10 – 100 undergraduate and graduate students, as requested by Instructors at UVM, Saint Michael’s, and Johnson State. Parents (or family members) speak for approximately 20 minutes.
