Early Childhood Inclusion Policy and Resources

Many young children with special needs continue to be educated in separate preschool settings and apart from regular developing children. In 1985, 36.8% of preschoolers with special needs were educated in early childhood settings with their non-disabled peers.  In 2012, after 27 years of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), 42.5% of young children are in inclusive settings. U.S Department of Education and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issued a joint policy on inclusion of children with disabilities in early childhood programs  These CONNECT modules contain information and resources that can help parents and educators work together to successfully provide high quality early childhood services to ALL children.
