VFN Funding
Many families have benefited from
funding assistance:
Family Support Fund: This
fund is used by families who self-identify a need related to their
child's diagnosis. It can be used for equipment, therapies, emergency
childcare, camp, or any other need as it relates to the child's
diagnosis and is not otherwise covered by insurance or Medicaid. The
Family Support Fund is primarily composed of resources from: Brookes
Baker Trust, Tom Sustic Fund, Doug Flutie Foundation, and the Vermont
Department of Children and Families.
Conference Fund: Parents may request funds
from Parent to Parent to attend conferences relating to their child's
disability or special need.
Support Group Fund: This fund is designed
to assist parents with the start-up costs of launching a support group
in a specific geographic area or by diagnosis. Funding is available for
advertising, speakers, refreshments, space rental,
etc. The
Support Group Fund is made possible by the VT Dept. of Health
Respite Fund: Parent to Parent has a
grant from the Agency of Human Services for flexible respite funding
through the Prevention Committee of Children and Family Council for
Prevention Programs.

Vermont Family Network's 2010 Respite Grant Funds are now available.
Vermont Family Network has a limited number of grants available to families who are parenting children with special needs. It is not intended for the child's therapies, for going to work, or for paying for car repairs. This funding is specificially for the caregiver(s), who parent children with special needs, to enjoy a break from the stressors inherent in our daily lives.
Ask yourself, could you use a break? Would you like to take yourself out (maybe with your partner/spouse), fund some childcare, take a class, join a gym, or spend quality time with your other children (without special needs)? Parenting is hard work and we all need an occasional break. Taking care of ourselves is important for taking care of others!
If you haven't recieved respite funds in the past from Vermont Famiy Network (or from the former Parent to Parent of Vermont), please feel free to apply. Even, if you have received funds in the past, but still have an unmet need, please drop me a quick line with your concerns. Information is great for advocacy. Please note: some counties do have wait-lists.

Family Support Fund
These funds are not
currently available. This
fund is to be used
by families who self-identify a need related to their child’s diagnosis. It can be used for equipment, therapies,
emergency childcare, camp, or any other need as it relates to the

information,
but trust the judgment of the family that if the parent is asking, that
there
is financial need.
Please
request the full
amount that you need, but please understand that $100 is typically
funded. If
the amount needed is substantially more than $100, please specify how
the
additional funds will be raised. As we receive many requests and have
limited
funding, we ask that parents limit their requests to one time per
calendar
year. Emergency exceptions are
considered on a case-by-case basis.
To apply, send
us
a letter specifying how much you are requesting, what the money will be
used
for, how it will benefit the child with the special need, where else
you’ve
looked and how additional money will be raised, if necessary.
